WHAT IS EXPONENTIAL SUNDAY?
There are special times in the life of Parkwood where God calls his people to rally together in exponential ways to support the work and ministry of the church. We are joyfully entering into one of these times.
In 2005, Parkwood members gave over $1.5 million to purchase and renovate the Porch for Student Ministry. In 2012, Parkwood launched Growth Solutions to address major challenges to growth. In this timeframe:
- The Worship Center was modernized & renovated
- 105 new parking spaces were created
- A women‘s restroom was built in the lobby
WHY ANOTHER EXPONENTIAL SUNDAY?
At the completion of Exponential Sunday 2012, we knew the future would require:
- multiplying off-campus growth groups
- maximizing worship services
- planting campuses
- expanding the Lobby
Though planting campuses has helped address growth, the lobby continues to require a growth solution. We believe the time is now to expand the lobby. God has continued to bless Parkwood with growth as Parkwood members share the gospel, invite friends and neighbors to church, and more people move to Gastonia. Since 2012, we have gone from 10 off-campus growth groups to nearly 30, and have planted 3 new churches.
Through Community Off-Campus Growth Groups, Sunday morning services, and campus-to-plants, we still have the capacity to grow and increase the opportunity to plant campuses and churches.
HOW DO WE DO IT?
Parkwood approaches these moments with a commitment to:
- maintain the centrality of the gospel
- make disciples who make disciples
- remain debt-free
The new lobby will cost approximately $750,000.
We believe God is calling the church to participate in Exponential Sunday, which we pattern after 1 Chronicles 29. King David and Israel‘s leaders announced what they would give towards building the temple, and called Israel to follow. Israel responded with sacrificial and abundant giving.
WHAT WILL IT TAKE?
In order to reach this $750,000 goal, we will have to trust the Lord and sacrifice together. Ask the Lord where he has provided in your life and where you could sacrifice in order to join this work.
In the 2005 and 2012, Parkwood members sold cars, jewelry, stock, land, and other possessions in order to give. The success and joy of a day like Exponential Sunday is not found in equal giving but equal sacrifice.
