Paul writes in Galatians 6:14, “But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Charles Spurgeon commented that this verse was the theme of Paul’s ministry. For Paul, his only boast was in the cross of Jesus Christ. Why? Because this Gospel is the only God-ordained means of saving sinners like ourselves. There is no other Gospel.
My prayer is that our only boast would be in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; that Galatians 6:14 would be the theme of our ministry together at Parkwood. We live in an age of boasting. We boast of accomplishments, skills, religious credentials, and anything to elevate ourselves. However, as followers of Christ, we have come to understand that this world has nothing for us, and that Christ is everything to us. We, indeed, can do nothing apart from Christ. Therefore, He is our only boast.
We will conclude our series in Galatians, this Sunday, by observing Communion. I cannot think of a better way to boast in Christ together than by sharing Communion. You can access a short video of me explaining how we will partake of Communion here or watch below.
It has been a joy to lead God’s people at Parkwood through this study of Galatians. My hope, as we conclude this Sunday, is that you walk away clearly understanding, believing, and sharing this glorious Gospel of our Lord Jesus.
“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen” (Galatians 6:18)
