Great Commission Team & Mid-Term Missions

Parkwood is strongly committed to the development and intentional discipleship of young men and women toward fulfilling the Great Commission. One of the ways in which we have done that is through Ministry Development. Ministry Development is an opportunity for college-aged students to serve in a ministry area to gain exposure to the local church and determine if God is calling them to vocational ministry. Those in Ministry Development could then progress to internships and apprenticeships.

Though Ministry Development is a great tool for discipleship, Parkwood must more holistically develop young men and women who will serve not only in local church ministry but beyond. Our approach to the Great Commission Team seeks to develop Great Commission Christians whether they are called to serve the local church, live cross-culturally as a missionary, or work in Phoenix, Boston, or Gastonia as a teacher, mechanic, accountant, or any other profession. A Great Commission Christian is a follower of Jesus who engages in making disciples, carrying the burden to reach the unreached with the gospel and to strengthen the reached in the gospel. God’s global glory is the motivating force behind this addition of the Great Commission Team, and we pray, the motivation for each of our actions and choices as Great Commission Christians.

Therefore, this summer will be the launch of the Great Commission Team. The Great Commission Team engages college-age students in the Great Commission through exposure to lostness with opportunities to evangelize and make disciples while being equipped for the work of ministry along the way.

After someone completes a summer with the Great Commission Team, the next step in the developmental process is to serve on a mid-term global assignment with one of our partners. Rebecca is one of our members who recently returned from an assignment in Central Asia. She shares with you about her experience and why you should consider going mid-term. As you hear her story, consider where and how God might be calling you to take the gospel to unreached people and places in the world; and if you are approaching college or completing your first year of college, consider how the Great Commission Team might prepare you to go mid-term and beyond.

If you wish to apply for the Great Commission Team this summer, you may do so here until December 31, 2017.
