unreached people groups

Unreached People Groups

WHat is a people group?

A people group is an ethno-linguistic group with a common self-identity that is shared by the various members. For strategic purposes it is the largest group within which the Gospel can spread without encountering barriers of understanding or acceptance.

what's the difference between reached and unreached?

A people group is considered unreached (UPG) when there is no indigenous community of believing Christians able to engage this people group with church planting. Technically speaking, the percentage of evangelical Christians in this people group is less than 2 percent.

parkwood in unreached contexts

Central Asia
These short-term trips are in partnership with one of two teams in Central Asia. Parkwood has linked arms with these teams as a praying church, a member care church, and a short-term sending church. Our purpose for each trip is therefore to unite further in prayer and partnership, to care for the team and team members, and to support their platform, usually by teaching English and building relationships with English learners during what is typically an eight day short-term trip.

East Asia
Our East Asia trips are new efforts to investigate how Parkwood might be part of reaching a people group that is not only unreached but unengaged with the gospel. Trips ten days in length will give you the opportunity to prayer walk through villages and seek person of peace relationships through which we can share the gospel. Should these short-term trips yield a decision to move forward, then Parkwood will seek to be a connecting church, in which we are connected by an East Asia team to an unengaged people group.

Short-term trips to Nigeria have the purpose of working among the Dibo. During these nine day trips the work is focused through connection points between pastors of neighboring tribes and the Dibo people among whom the Father is working. You will join with pastors and go into villages to facilitate and be part of these relationships. Parkwood has served as a connecting church for the Dibo for many years, which means that field personnel and strategy have directected us to our role, but we operate primarily independent of outside help.
