Are you a member of Parkwood? |
|
Are you able to commit to this two year process (in one year segments)? |
|
Regarding the time commitment, do you have any reservations or potential issues? |
|
What are your reservations? | First i am glad you want to provide the knowledge and wisdom, as well the character one must manifest in order to be one of His disciples (1 Peter 3:15-16). All disciples disciple as well. Also I like what CSLewis says about discipling. I am sure you do too. Second, i would like to first understand from your syllabus what you intend to present and do. Third, i desire to facilitate a class (you may call it an apologetics elective if you like). There are many resources that i have used the past twenty years. It is quite possible there are certain authors, studies etc that you have not heard of or considered at PBC. (i know there are many that you have used as well that i never came across. For instance, Andrew B shared a useful resource in his evangelism class) i am not saying i know more (or even anything) because as you know, the more one digs into His two books, the greater are the rewards. Not surprisingly these rewards prompt more digging. Be it said, this 'digging' is only done in response to questions that i have but mainly looking for answers that others have (and sometimes together). His treasures are endless regardless of where you search. HE will either reveal Himself and/or allow you to discover more about His involvement in art, music, all sciences, architecture, history, etc (See JWWallace's "Person of Interest.") Fourth, there is no reservation to pray. The Church is at a turning point and has been for the 70 years. |
Are you currently serving in the church? If so, where? | yes. Currently leading a study at the Pointe using "Cold-Case Christianity" (again by JWWallace) and at City Church, "Tactics" by Greg Koukl. Amazing engagement books. |
Are you currently discipling someone? If so, who are you discipling and please tell us about the relationship. | Grandkids (3). Only one serious college student who knows i am available. Several in the mentioned studies above. It should be mentioned that we always start our class with Share & Prayer. This is a means to understand whats going on in their lives and where they stand in their relationship with the LORD. |
Is someone currently discipling you? If so, who is discipling you and please tell us about the relationship. | interesting question: i'd say our PBC prayer group (37+ yrs) fills some of that necessity. (certain level of accountability) Other than the two classes that i mentioned above, there is one small group in which we share&prayer that meets weekly when studies are not in session. The process is to build up the obvious replacement when i leave. Although not one on one, i feel there is significant discipling that occurs under 'solid' preaching when one is challenged to heed the 'So What?' or 'Now What? Lastly, strangely it seems that discipling in me occurs when discipling another, if that makes any sense. |
Have you previously taken any training or equipping classes at Parkwood? (I.e. Bible Doctrine, discipleship, evangelism, 20 Basic Beliefs, GG leader training, etc.) If so, which ones? | YES |
Why do you want to be a part of Disciple Makers Intensive? | before i would attempt to answer this i would like to know more about it. and if you think you could use me. |
Do you currently have 1-3 people that can commit to meeting with you twice a month (on average) for discipling over the course of the next year? If so, who are they? | depends what the subject matter is and what is the reason for learning it. |
Would your spouse or close friend recommend that you participate in the Intensive during your current season of life? |

Choose one of the following doctrines and give us a brief definition and explanation of the subject: God, salvation, the Holy Spirit, or the Bible. | Perhaps i am more inclined to lead people to have a desire to want to know HIM and subsequently lead them in these subjects. Some might call this pre-evangelism. maybe in the context it would be pre-discipling. not trying to avoid answering your request for there are many sitting in the pews who cant give a meaningful tweet on them. I will keep it short to cause less heresy: God is God, nothing greater OR even a close second. God made it ALL which is good and even very good, us. He is in a category that consists of one ONE. Salvation is All from God through Jesus Christ and not of ourselves. Cuts out the boasting. God gives reasons for our faith and faith itself. Holy Spirit is God in us. We are the temple of God. He is the hands on God right from Gen 1:2. We can do All His things in Christ by the Power of the Resurrection. Bible is the often said to be the story of redemption (so-called scarlet thread) which is true, BUT as i grow older (not necessarily wiser) it seems LORDSHIP has preeminence. We seem to gloss over the "LORD" in Romans 10:9-10. (We like the Savior part and forget the Creator part) However, why do us humanoids always have to have one 'thing' as number one in any constructed category? btw: God IS. I avoid "God exists." |
