Are you a member of Parkwood?
  • Yes
Are you able to commit to this two year process (in one year segments)?
  • Yes
Regarding the time commitment, do you have any reservations or potential issues?
  • No
Are you currently serving in the church? If so, where?Yes, I lead a Growth Group that my wife and I host at our house. I also teach the 11:00am 5th grade Growth Group 1-2 times each month.
Are you currently discipling someone? If so, who are you discipling and please tell us about the relationship.

Yes, James Starr is a member of our Growth Group though he has not joined Parkwood. He and his wife, Courtney, have been a part of our group on and off since it began in November 2019. We began having conversations just a few weeks ago about membership and baptism. He said something that made me think that I need to step back and help him understand the Gospel and conversion clearly. That’s where we’re at as I write this, so I am unsure that he is a believer as of this moment.
Josey Messer is a member of our Growth Group and a member of Parkwood. He and his wife, Lacey, joined our group earlier this year. While I’ve gotten to know the Messers through our group meetings and informal events, I haven’t gotten to spend much time getting to know Josey on a personal level.
I would also include my wife, Madison Capps, in this list as well. Madi was saved when we began visiting Parkwood and heard the gospel clearly. I strive to help her grow in her faith, though I confess, it is easier said than done. I try to help her learn to read/study the Bible as I continue to learn as well.

Is someone currently discipling you? If so, who is discipling you and please tell us about the relationship.

Yes, Jason Robinson is a member of our Growth Group and a member of Parkwood. He and his wife, Jennifer, have been in the group since we began meeting in November 2019. In addition to regular Tuesday night meetings of our group, we try to get lunch a couple of times each month. We talk about surface level topics but also aim for deeper subjects too, such as our spiritual disciplines, what we’re struggling with, and what we’re reading/studying. Jason has 2 sons that are several years older than our 2 children so we talk about parenting a good bit. In many ways, we are discipling one another but Jason has wisdom and experience that I don’t have and I find myself desiring to be more Christlike because of the example he sets.

Have you previously taken any training or equipping classes at Parkwood? (I.e. Bible Doctrine, discipleship, evangelism, 20 Basic Beliefs, GG leader training, etc.) If so, which ones?

Yes, I have taken Bible Doctrine with Pastor Jeff, discipleship with Ben Francis, evangelism with Andrew Brafford, and a few Growth Group Leader trainings.

Why do you want to be a part of Disciple Makers Intensive?

There are two main reasons: 1) I desire to be an effective disciple-maker. I am convinced it is biblical and what the church needs in order to continue producing mature believers. 2) I recognize that it is a weak area of mine that I’m eager to grow in. I’m not great at deepening relationships and I often don’t know what to say once a conversation moves into deeper and more personal subjects.

Do you currently have 1-3 people that can commit to meeting with you twice a month (on average) for discipling over the course of the next year? If so, who are they?

Yes, James Starr, Josey Messer, and Madison.

Would your spouse or close friend recommend that you participate in the Intensive during your current season of life?
  • Yes
Choose one of the following doctrines and give us a brief definition and explanation of the subject: God, salvation, the Holy Spirit, or the Bible.

God
God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and everything in it. God is perfectly holy and completely sinless. Though He is one God, He exists in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. God has revealed Himself to us, generally, through His creation. He has revealed Himself, specially, as the Savior of sinful man through Jesus Christ. That special revelation is contained in the inerrant, infallible, and unchanging Scripture: the Holy Bible. The Bible reveals that God is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), and omnipresent (all-present). He revealed Himself to Moses as “I AM” or “Yahweh” or “the LORD”, which points to his eternality, self-sufficiency, and sovereignty. Scripture also reveals God as loving, faithful, just, good, merciful, gracious, and glorious.
