Are you a member of Parkwood?
  • Yes
Are you able to commit to this two year process (in one year segments)?
  • Yes
Regarding the time commitment, do you have any reservations or potential issues?
  • No
Are you currently serving in the church? If so, where?no
Are you currently discipling someone? If so, who are you discipling and please tell us about the relationship.

I am currently discipling my children and my next door neighbor. I am also heavily involved in Haiti missions. My children are baptized and teenagers, but young in their beliefs and sanctification. I am looking forward to being a part of their discipling to mature Christians who themselves will disciple to their peers. My neighbor has been in and out of churches in the past, and has a servant heart, but is not a Christian. Over time, through relationship and prayer I have been working to demonstrate Christian principles, but I would like to move forward with next steps of discipling him to know Christ and accept Christ as his savior.

Is someone currently discipling you? If so, who is discipling you and please tell us about the relationship.

My wife is a great source of personal discipling to me. She is a "prayer warrior" and a committed wife who relies on our marriage to be centered in Christ. She helps me through counsel and in close personal relationship is able to help me grow as a Christian. We both compliment one another and consider Christ as the center of our marriage as Christ works through both of us.

Have you previously taken any training or equipping classes at Parkwood? (I.e. Bible Doctrine, discipleship, evangelism, 20 Basic Beliefs, GG leader training, etc.) If so, which ones?

I participated in a bible study in the past, but as a host to my growth group now am focusing studies around our meetings.

Why do you want to be a part of Disciple Makers Intensive?

I am a physician and run a mission in Haiti which creates a busy schedule; however, before this class was introduced, I have been fervently praying for the Lord to help me become a better disciple maker, to use me in ways that lead people to Him through my work here in Gastonia and through my mission work. I have exposure to many patients in my career and also to missions in Haiti several times per year. I pray with patients daily, but want to have better confidence taking further steps with patients who do not know Christ. Though Haiti missions, I am in a unique position to be a. "lead follower" and I want to have better skills and methods to reach not only people to disciple in Haiti, but those working with me in missions in Haiti and traveling to Haiti. I plan to increase my work in Haiti over the next several years and would like to have a solid foundation in discipling to the Haitians I treat and work with in Haiti.

I think this class would be an excellent opportunity to help me find unique ways to minister directly to my children, directly to my patients, directly to Haitians, and through teaching missionaries traveling under our umbrella to work in Haiti.

Do you currently have 1-3 people that can commit to meeting with you twice a month (on average) for discipling over the course of the next year? If so, who are they?

Yes. my children who I have talked with and who are agreeable to participate as I work with them.

Would your spouse or close friend recommend that you participate in the Intensive during your current season of life?
  • Yes
Choose one of the following doctrines and give us a brief definition and explanation of the subject: God, salvation, the Holy Spirit, or the Bible.

Salvation: we are saved only through the work of Christ on the cross who died for our sins. We cannot save ourselves by works. By accepting the work of Christ on the cross, repenting of our own sin and accepting Christ as the only way to our Father, we are saved from eternal destruction and rewarded with eternal life. Becoming Christian through salvation allows us to become the extension of the body of His church, and we willingly can be used by the Lord to bring His kingdom. This concept separates Christianity from all other religions and uniquely positions the believer to be completely dependent on the salvation work of Christ to accomplish the Lords work in us personally, throughout the church and world for His benefit.
