GET TO KNOW JORDAN

Tell us your story.

Hi Parkwood! My name is Jordan Christie, and I’m 39 and the oldest of 3 kids. I grew up in a military family, moved around a few times, and ended up in Panama City, Florida, in the 6th grade, where I lived until moving to Pensacola, Florida, for college.

I grew up in an incredibly healthy home with parents who love the Lord and modeled true discipleship. Through their influence and the influence of the church I grew up in, I learned God loved me and that I was created to love him and find my joy in him. At the age of 18, at a summer camp, God opened my eyes and heart to my sin and showed me my need for a Savior. That night I placed my trust in the saving work of Jesus and haven’t looked back!

Music and ministry have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Somewhere around age 15, I began playing guitar in my youth group band, and the rest was history! That led to me spending the next decade and a half as a band leader, traveling musician, and lay music ministry leader. That marriage of music and ministry sparked a passion in me that has ultimately proved to be God’s call on my life, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that!

Tell us about your family.

My wife Rebekah and I will celebrate 14 years of marriage this October. She is the best wife, mom, and life partner I could ask for. While Rebekah’s main focus is our three children, she is also a Realtor.

We have three kids – Nora, Dean, and Ford. Our oldest child, Nora, will turn 10 this October and finish 3rd grade next month. She is brilliant, beautiful, loves reading, music, cooking, and math. Our middle child, Dean, just turned 8 and will finish 2nd grade this year. He is genuine, thoughtful, and loves soccer, climbing trees, video games, and driving his older sister crazy. Our youngest and last child, Ford, is two and is our family’s comedic relief. He is my “mini-me.” His current favorite activity is eating whatever is in sight, and the occasional meltdown. Truly the baby of the family, he generally has his way.

Why have you dedicated your life and ministry to leading the church in worship?

The short answer is I want my life and ministry to bring attention to what Christ has done for the world and the hope he has promised us! I want the entire world to know what Jesus did for me and what he can do for them. I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else with my life. Something special happens when we proclaim God’s truth together in song; we shift our eyes off of ourselves and our current trials and refocus them upon the eternal hope we have in Christ. When we sing, we testify to the world and remind ourselves that there is hope and his name is Jesus! And in Jesus, we cannot be shaken. I truly believe when we worship and set our eyes on Jesus, “the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.”

Why are you considering Parkwood?

We are considering Parkwood because it’s truly a church we would desire to be members of and raise our family in, even if I wasn’t a candidate for Worship Pastor. I see a vibrant and healthy body of believers where God’s word is esteemed and taught boldly and correctly. Ephesians 4:12 says, “Equip the saints to do the work of ministry,” and James 1:22 says, “To be doers of the word, not only hearers.” We see a church that takes that mission to heart which is evident by your love for families, community, missions, and worship. We love what we see happening at Parkwood and would love to join alongside you in glorifying God, growing in faith, and taking the gospel to the world!

What do you do for fun?

Fire pits, guitars, and documentaries. One of the things I love to do the most these days is to sit around my fire pit on a cool night and listen to music. If I’m not doing that, it’s pretty common to find me doing something guitar related. I am a guitar junkie! If I’m not sitting down to learn a classic rock guitar solo, I’m probably reading about the amps, guitars, and effects used on my favorite band’s recordings. I’m a sucker for the rock and roll of the late ’60s, ’70s, and ’90s. When I’m not doing that, I love to watch documentaries. I’m fascinated by all things true crime and World War 2 related.
