PARKWOOD CAR CARE

Parkwood Car Care

Car Care is a ministry of Parkwood that seeks to provide basic automotive maintenance and repairs for Parkwood members in need.

Who Can Serve with Car Care?

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ
  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church (PBC)
  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people along with needed automotive skills
  • Humble demeanor and teachable spirit
  • A team player

  • Availability Saturday mornings, usually around the third weekend of the month

What is expected for those who serve in Car Care?

  • To humbly serve those PBC members in need by offering simple but quality car repair and maintenance
  • To be physically fit enough to regularly get down on the ground and back up
  • To pray with and encourage PBC members 
BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY

Parkwood Bereavement Ministry

Bereavement ministry helps coordinate and provide meal(s) for the family members surrounding the death of a loved one. 

Who can serve with the Bereavement Ministry?

  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church (PBC)
  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people, especially those in the grieving process
  • Humble demeanor and teachable spirit

What is expected for those who serve in Bereavement Ministry? 

  • To humbly serve those PBC members who have experienced loss
  • Cook and serve with excellence

GUEST SERVICES

Parkwood Guest Services – Welcome Team

The purpose of the Welcome Team is to welcome, inform, and service specifically, our first time guests. The goal of this team is to create an incredible first impression and a personalized experience by assisting first-time guests from the moment they arrive.

Who Can Serve on the Welcome Team?

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ
  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church (PBC)
  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people
  • Availability Sunday mornings in between services 

What is expected for those who serve on the Welcome Team?

  • Have positive body language (smiling, making eye contact, etc.) 
  • Be on the lookout for first-time guests – people who look uncomfortable or have a “Where do I go?” look on their faces
  • To engage guests (regular and first-time) by conversing with them, answering their questions, and walking them where they need to go (kids building, worship center, Next Steps, etc.)
  • Answer people’s questions with a friendly and welcoming attitude
  • Be able and willing to escort someone to a particular area
  • Provide guests with a complementary gift bag
  • Know the location of all necessary areas (kids building, Worship Suite, bathrooms, WC 110, Annex, the Porch, etc.) 
  • Be aware of special events
  • Be in position 15 minutes before the service begins and 15 minutes after the service starts
HANDS OF HOPE

Hands of Hope

Hands of Hope is a ministry of Parkwood that seeks to provide support and encouragement for foster and adoptive families through licensing, ongoing education, and support for the foster and adoption process. Financial assistance is also available through an application process. 

Who Can Serve with Hands of Hope?

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ

  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people especially orphans, foster children, and the families involved
  • Humble demeanor and teachable spirit
  • Exhibits a servant’s heart
  • Must be willing to submit to and pass a background check

What is expected of those who serve with Hands of Hope? 

  • To humbly serve those PBC and Gaston County members in the adoption and foster process by:
    • Volunteering on Respite nights for childcare, food pickup, chaperoning, or any other needs that may arise
    • Organize meal train and recruit families to prepare meals needed.
    • Yard work
    • Laundry/ house cleaning
    • Child care for court dates 
    • Simple encouragement
    • Gifts cards if need arises 
    • Prayer
  • Advocate for the plight of orphans and the end of abortion 

 

PARKWOOD KIDS MINISTRY

Parkwood Kids Ministry Preschool Growth Group Leader

Parkwood Kids is a ministry of Parkwood where kids birth through 5th grade will enjoy a safe place where they can play, sing, and experience God’s love, while seeing that the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption that unfolds from Genesis through Revelation.

Who can serve as a preschool Growth Group Leader

  • Follower of Christ
  • Member of Parkwood
  • Able to pass a background check

What is expected for those who work with Nursery/Toddlers (Birth-24 months)?

  • Weekly lead with other leader(s) in an assigned preschool classroom (one year commitment from August to August)
  • Enjoy working with preschool-aged children
  • Complete Ministry Safe training
  • Love and care for children
  • Facilitate a safe, positive, and engaging environment for the children to explore
  • Be friendly and get to know the parents/guardians as they drop off and pick up their children
  • Pray for the children in your class and their families

What is expected for those who work with 2 Yr. Olds/ 3 Yr. Olds/ 4 Yr. Olds (Pre-K)?

  • Weekly lead with other leader(s) in an assigned preschool classroom (one year commitment from August to August)
  • Enjoy working with preschool-aged children
  • Love, nurture, and care for the children who attend your class
  • Teach the Gospel Project Bible story and carry out the activities that are pre-planned and provided
  • Be friendly and get to know the parents/guardians as they drop off and pick up their children

What is expected to work for those who work with children K-5?

  • Weekly lead with other leader(s) in an assigned elementary classroom (one year commitment from August to August)

  • Love, nurture, and care for the children who attend your class
  • Be willing to embrace the Gospel Project curriculum and be supportive of its various components
  • Teach the Gospel Project Bible story and carry out the activities that are pre-planned and provided
  • Be friendly and get to know the parents/guardians as they drop off and pick up their children
  • Pray for the children in your classroom and their families
  • Be willing to lead and work with our  9th-12th grade Student Leaders who will assist in the classrooms

Parkwood Kids Ministry AWANA Leader

What is expected for those who work with Cubbies? 

  • Enjoy working with preschool-aged children
  • Be supportive of the AWANA program in general and what it stands for
  • Get to know, nurture and show love to each child who attends your class
  • Weekly lead with other leader(s) in an assigned preschool classroom (one year commitment from September to May)
  • Follow the schedule and carry out the activities that are pre-planned and provided
  • Listen to children say their weekly Bible verse and sign each child’s Cubbies Handbook
  • Be friendly and get to know the parents/guardians as they drop off and pick up their children
  • Pray for the children in your class and their families
  • Be willing to lead and work with our 9th-12th grade Student Leaders who may assist in the classrooms

Who can serve as a Sparks leader (ages K-2nd grade)?

  • Member of Parkwood – Those in leadership and teaching positions  – Non-Members may listen to verses and serve in other supporting rolls.

What is expected for those who work with Sparks?

  • Weekly lead with other leader(s) in an assigned K, 1st, or 2nd grade classroom (one year commitment from September to May)
  • Enjoy working with children who are in Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grades
  • Be supportive of the AWANA program in general and what it stands for
  • Get to know, nurture and show love to each child who attends your class
  • Follow the schedule and carry out the activities that are pre-planned and         provided
  • Listen to children recite their weekly Bible verses and sign each child’s Sparks Handbook

Parkwood Buddy Ministry 

The Parkwood Buddy Ministry is a ministry that seeks to love and care for children with special needs in order for them, and their parents, to feel safe, comfortable, and ministered to. Buddies will be equipped to care for children with a variety of special needs and serve these children and families in growth groups (both Sunday morning and on weekdays) as well as at AWANA on Wednesday evenings.

What is expected of a Parkwood Buddy?

  • Participate in a training meeting for volunteers who work with children with special needs
  • Be willing to work on Sunday mornings during worship at 9:30 or 11:00 or on Wednesday nights during AWANA
  • Have a heart for and enjoy working with children with special needs to varying degrees
  • Be willing to be a one-on-one Buddy for a child with special needs in a regular classroom
  • OR be willing to be a teacher for a child in a separate designated classroom.
  • Be willing to connect with and stay in communication with the family of your assigned child
  • Be willing to learn the specific needs of the child you are helping in order to provide an individualized plan for him/her to thrive at church
  • Pray regularly for the child you are working with and his/her family

Parkwood Kids Ministry Check-In

Parkwood Kids is a ministry of Parkwood where kids birth through 5th grade will enjoy a safe place where they can play, sing, and experience God’s love, while seeing that the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption that unfolds from Genesis through Revelation.

What is expected of those who work with Kids Check-in?

  • Be willing to work consistently on Sunday mornings during worship at 9:30 or 11:00 or on Wednesday nights during AWANA
  • Friendly and welcoming to everyone who arrives
  • Have a working knowledge of Planning Center [Training provided.]
  • Help first-time visiting families understand Parkwood’s check-in and security system and help them get in the system
  • Escort new families down the hall and take them to their children’s classrooms
  • Be helpful to all families who need assistance with checking in
  • Complete Sexual Abuse Awareness Training

Parkwood Kids Security

Parkwood Kids is a ministry of Parkwood where kids birth through 5th grade will enjoy a safe place where they can play, sing, and experience God’s love, while seeing that the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption that unfolds from Genesis through Revelation.

Who can serve at Kids Security?

  • Follower of Christ

What is expected of those who serve at Kids Check-in? 

  • Be willing to work consistently on Sunday mornings during worship at 9:30 or 11:00 or on Wednesday nights during AWANA
  • Be willing to keep the doorways secure from unauthorized people entering as well as unattended children leaving the building
  • Must be willing and able to stop all people and kindly explain as well as listen when they are attempting to breach a secure doorway
  • Attempt to become familiar with the regular families who are passing through each week
  • Complete Sexual Abuse Awareness Training

Paid Childcare Workers

Paid Childcare Workers is a ministry of Parkwood Baptist Parkwood which consists of capable men and women who are responsible for providing safe, nurturing, age-appropriate care for children whose parents are participating in Parkwood Growth Groups or other church-related activities.

Who can serve as a Paid Childcare Worker? 

  • Follower of Christ
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Must be at least 16 years of age

What is expected of a Paid Childcare Workers? 

  • Be willing to babysit for paid childcare events such as: Off-Campus Growth Groups, Thursday Morning Bible Study, and special on-campus church events
  • Must be available and willing to be consistent and faithful to babysit for whatever event you have committed to
  • Must be physically, mentally and emotionally fit to care for small groups of young children
  • Be willing to abide by Parkwood’s guidelines for childcare workers 
  • Enjoy working children of all ages from baby to upper elementary
  • Complete Ministry Safe training

 

PARKWOOD COMMUNITY OUTREACH

PCO Parkwood Community Outreach

PCO is a volunteer led, faith based ministry of Parkwood where we provide non-perishable food items and clothing to meet needs and share the gospel with those in the community who find themselves in difficult situations.

Who Can Serve with PCO?

  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church 
  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people along with needed relational skills. 
  • Humble demeanor and teachable spirit

  • Availability mornings on Mondays and Thursdays OR to make deliveries at appointed times 

What is expected of those who serve with PCO? 

  • To humbly serve those in need in Gastonia by guiding clients through the PCO building to find suitable clothes and food items
  • To sort through bags of clothes to discard inappropriate items
  • To wash donated clothes as they come in
  • To sort, tag, and hang clothes in the appropriate room
  • To pack boxes of food items for clients
  • To deliver food boxes to clients
  • To assist on a needs basis with other events PCO conducts throughout the year (i.e. back to school, Teacher appreciation for local schools, Christmas for children, etc.) 
  • To pray with clients as they come into PCO
  • To share the love of Christ with clients through word and deed
HELPING HANDS

Parkwood Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a ministry of Parkwood that seeks to provide basic lawn care needs for Parkwood members in need. Helping Hands also builds quality, safe, and code-adherent wheelchair ramps on a needs basis.

Who Can Serve with Helping Hands?

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ
  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church (PBC)
  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people especially those of Parkwood and the community who are elderly or physically incapacitated in some way
  • Humble demeanor and teachable spirit
  • Exhibits a servant’s heart
  • Must be physically able to do yard work, often outside in less than ideal weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, etc.) 
  • Must be physically able to pick up heavy objects, operate power tools, and do so safely

What is expected of those who serve with Helping Hands? 

  • To humbly serve those PBC members who are in need of lawn care or basic house repairs and/or  building a safe, code-adherent wheelchair ramp
  • To be able to do basic but quality lawn care, house repairs and whatever tasks are necessary to build a wheelchair ramp
  • To pray with and encourage the PBC members you are serving

 

PARKWOOD STUDENTS

Parkwood Student Ministry

Parkwood Students exist to lay a foundation that prepares students to glorify God, grow in their faith, and go with the gospel. Through student worship services, student growth groups, and an emphasis on sharing the gospel with neighbors and nations, we seek to meet students where they are and watch them mature into great commission Christians as they progress through Student Ministry.

Student GG Leader

Who can serve as a student GG Leader? 

  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church in good standing
  • A growing disciple of Jesus Christ
  • Well grounded in Scripture
  • Express love and call to lead students and actively participate in their lives
  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people along with needed relational skills
  • Humble demeanor and a teachable spirit
  • A solid reputation among peers
  • Willing to submit to strict discipleship and correction (James 3:1)
  • Able to pass a background check

 

What is expected from those who serve as a student GG leader? 

    • Complete Ministry Safe Training
    • Attend Student GG Training
    • Able to attend the majority of growth group meetings (Middle School – Wednesday, High School – Sunday)
    • Actively communicate with students within your group
    • Lead a weekly biblical discussion using the provided Bible study material with your particular group of students 

Meal Team (Hospitality Team)

Who can serve on student meal team? 

  • Able to pass a background check.
  • Desire to serve students and gg leaders.

What is expected of those who serve on student meal team?

  • Able to help with meal set up, service, and clean up.
  • Available Wednesday or Sunday nights between 5-6:30. (Doesn’t require a weekly commitment)

Security Team

Who can serve on student ministry Security Team?

  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church in good standing. 
  • A growing disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • A desire to serve student ministry by helping maintain a safe environment for students.
  • A solid reputation among peers. 
  • Able to pass a background check

 

What is expected of those who serve on student ministry Security Team?

  • Complete Ministry Safe Training
  • Help maintain a safe environment for students through
    • Walking through hallways, meeting room, and lobby throughout the duration of students (5:30-8)
    • Report any suspicious behavior to the student team.

180 Weekend Driver

Who can serve as a 180 Weekend Driver? 

  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church in good standing.
  • A growing disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Valid driver’s license and over the age of 25 years old.

 

What is expected of those who serve as a 180 Weekend Driver?

  • Ensure the safety of students at all times
  • Be available throughout the weekend of 180 to drive students to and from the church, host homes, and free time activities.
  • Be prompt to all pick-ups.

180 Weekend Host Home

Who can serve as a 180 Weekend Host Home? 

  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church in good standing.A growing disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Has the space to be able to host students in their home for a week ( space for students to sleep and to small group discussions)

What is expected of those who serve as a 180 Weekend Host Home?

  • Complete Ministry Safe Training
  • Food– Provide 2 meals for students throughout the weekend (breakfast Saturday and dinner Saturday)
  • Discipline – You are in charge of discipline at your home. Do not depend on the leader to handle discipline with the group. Discipline is your responsibility.  You will be given the rules for the weekend. The students will be encouraged to respect your home and you
  • Cell Phones – Students are allowed to bring their cell phones for the weekend, but they will be taken up by the host home when you go to bed. Students will be able to get their phones when you wake up but at night their phones will be kept by the host home. They are welcome to request to use their phone to call their parents if necessary while at the host home.
  • Medicine – Students need to turn in their medication to the host home upon arrival. Make sure that students who are supposed to take medication do so at the appropriate time (dinner, before bed, etc.).
  • Love on students.– Look for opportunities to be involved with the students during breaks. Be around when they eat their snack and meals.  Get to know names and faces. 

Events Program Team (Fall Retreat & Getaway)

Who can serve on Events Program Team? 

  • Maintain Christ-like behavior and maturity in every area of life, including social media, and is in good standing with the church, community, and family.
  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church who affirms our core beliefs and values
  • Cultivating a mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ 
  • Submit to a background check.
  • Pass the Child Safety Training
  • A Servant’s heart and be willing to assist with any other needs that may pop up throughout the week.
  • Wants to have fun making events special for students!

What is expected of those who serve on Events Program Team? 

  • Team make-up of 3-4 people working alongside Kasie White.
  • Available throughout the event weekend.
  • Lots of physical activity involved in the set-up and tear-down.
  • We desire for the program team to participate in camp by attending worship and speaking to students. 

 

WORSHIP MINISTRY

Worship Ministry 

Parkwood Worship exists to lead the people of God gathered at Parkwood to worship the one true God in spirit and truth, exalt his only son King Jesus, and proclaim His gospel in song and attitude. We seek to do that with excellence, excitement, and humility, desiring all praise and glory to be ascribed to the almighty and transcendent God.

Choir Members:

Who can serve in the Parkwood Choir?

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ
  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church (PBC) or a guest
  • Desire to lead worship corporately during ALL music planned for Worship Service

What is expected of those who serve in the Parkwood Choir?

  • Attend Choir Rehearsals as regularly as possible on Wednesday Nights
  • Attend ALL Special Rehearsals for Special Events
  • Sing as regularly as possible in Worship Services in which the choir is utilized

Worship Leaders:

Who can serve as a worship leader?

  • Clear Follower of Christ
  • Actively pursuing Membership -or- currently members
  • Active members of a growth group

What is expected before one can serve as a worship leader?

  • Audition to determine level of proficiency
  • Read through Worship Matters by Bob Kauflin with worship pastor or member of worship staff
  • Complete any remedial training required by Worship team (if necessary)
  • Logistics Training meeting with Jay Smith before first Sunday serving

What is expected of those who serve as a worship leader?

  • When scheduled, prepare holistically to lead worship through prayer and personal rehearsal
  • Be punctual for Sunday morning rehearsals
  • Be as active of a participant in choir on Sundays when you are not leading

Band (Instrumentalists) Members:

Who can serve as a member of the band or an instrumentalist)?

  • Clear Follower of Christ
  • Actively pursuing Membership -or- currently members
  • Active members of a growth group

What is expected before one can serve as a member of the band or instrumentalist?

  • Audition to determine level of proficiency
  • Complete any remedial training required by Worship team (if necessary)
  • Logistics Training meeting with Jay Smith before first Sunday serving

What is expected of those who serve as a member of the band or instrumentalist?

  • When scheduled, prepare holistically to lead worship through prayer and personal rehearsal
  • Be punctual for Sunday morning rehearsals

Production Team:

Who can serve as a member of the Production Team?

  • Clear Follower of Christ
  • Actively pursuing Membership -or- currently members
  • Active members of a growth group

What is expected before one can serve as a member of the Production Team? 

  • Diagnostic Meeting with Production Director to determine area of interest and current proficiencies
  • Sunday Morning Shadowing
  • Reverse Shadowing
  • Perform any remedial training depending on track selected (Audio Technician, Lighting Designer, Live Video Production or ProPresenter)
  • Released to be scheduled for future services

What is expected of those who serve on Production Team?

  • When scheduled, prepare appropriately for the scheduled role.  Depth of preparation will depend on scheduled position
  • Be punctual for Sunday morning Call Times

 

PARKWOOD REFUGEE MINISTRY

Parkwood Refugee Ministry

The Refugee Ministry of Parkwood seeks to minister to refugee and diaspora (scattered) groups in the Gastonia and surrounding area. 

Who Can Serve with the Refugee Ministry?

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ
  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church, although committed guests can partner alongside members
  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people 
  • Humble demeanor and teachable spirit
  • Exhibits a servant’s heart
  • Must have a good reputation in the community
  • Must be willing to be part of ongoing training, particularly that required and provided by community agencies

What is expected of those who serve with the Refugee Ministry? 

  • Pray for refugee and diaspora (scattered) peoples in the Gastonia and surrounding area
  • Seek out and share the gospel with refugees and diaspora peoples in the Gastonia and surrounding area
  • Participate in ministry to these refugees and diaspora communities.
    • Provide transportation to and from worship
    • Teach or support ESL among non-English speakers on Sundays
  • Adopt a family among the diaspora communities where we are ministering

 

VISITING SHUT-INS

Parkwood Visitation Ministry (Visiting homebound and shut-ins)

Visitation is a ministry of Parkwood that seeks to be a practical demonstration of Christ’s love towards those in our congregation who are unable to attend worship or growth group on campus or in the host home. 

Who Can Serve with Parkwood Visitation?

  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people
  • Demonstrates a servant heart 
  • A good reputation in the community and among peers

What is expected for those who serve in Parkwood Visitation?

  • To partner with the deacon ministry to visit homebound persons or shut-ins
  • To have access to reliable transportation 
  • To demonstrate the love of Christ to homebound persons or shut-ins by regularly visiting them, speaking with them, encouraging them, keeping them informed on the events and the life of Parkwood, praying with them, etc. 

 

VAN MINISTRY

Parkwood Van Ministry

The Van Ministry of Parkwood seeks to provide transportation to and from church and other Parkwood events to members in need. 

Who Can Serve with the Van Ministry?

What is expected of those who serve in the Van Ministry?

  • To humbly serve those PBC members who are unable to transport themselves to church on Sunday morning and for other events
  • To be available on Sunday mornings, on a rotational basis, to pick people up, drive them to church, and then take them home afterwards
  • Be engaging and encouraging to the folks in the van 
  • Represent Christ, Parkwood, and yourself well 
  • To be available, on some occasions, to pick people up and drive them to other church functions (i.e. refugee ministry, Labor Day GG picnic, etc.) 

 

PARKWOOD GLOBAL SHORT-TERM

Parkwood Global Short-Term

The Global Ministry of Parkwood seeks to provide pathways for members of Parkwood to engage the mission of God among the unreached of Central Asia and the least reached of North America. 

Who Can Serve with Global Short-Term?

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ
  • A member of Parkwood Baptist Church, although committed guests can partner alongside members and like-minded churches can participate in training and equipping contexts
  • Demonstrates a genuine love for people 
  • Humble demeanor and teachable spirit 
  • Exhibits a servant’s heart
  • Must have a good reputation in the community
  • Must have a valid passport for international travel
  • Must give permission for background checks as part of IMB’s ‘Go Method’

What is expected of those who serve Global Short-Term?

  • Participate in trips (4-7 day) to Boston, Phoenix, and WV to support the work of evangelism, discipleship, and church planting and to strengthen the church in these reached areas
  • Participate in Central Asia trips (7-10 days) to support workers through member care and retreats, and to support the evangelistic, discipleship, and church planting efforts among these unreached peoples
